Transit time is the elapsed period between a stated transport start and end event, such as vessel departure and port arrival or carrier pickup and delivery. It measures movement over a route or leg and may exclude production, booking, customs, storage and receiving time.
How is transit time calculated?
The basic calculation is transit time = arrival date and time − departure date and time. State whether the result uses calendar days, business days or scheduled service days.

The example covers only the two stated events. It does not include time before departure or after arrival.
Scheduled versus actual transit
Scheduled transit is the provider’s planned duration. Actual transit uses observed events. Keep both values so reliability can be measured rather than inferred from a single estimate.
What causes variation?
Route changes, transshipment, congestion, weather, cutoffs, border controls, equipment and missed connections can all affect the result.
How should services be compared?
Use identical endpoints, mode, lane and calendar basis, then consider frequency and variability as well as the average duration.
