An instant payment is an electronic account transfer designed to make funds available to the recipient within seconds, around the clock. The exact service level, amount limits and participant reach depend on the payment system and the customer's provider.
Instant availability can improve urgent supplier payments and cash positioning, but it compresses the time available to catch fraud or data errors. Approval and recipient checks belong before release.
Evidence for an instant payment
- Record the verified recipient account and the business reason for using the urgent route.
- Save the provider reference, status timestamps and any exception code.
- If the submission times out, establish whether it was accepted before initiating a replacement.
