Faster Payments receiving is the ability to accept eligible GBP payments through the United Kingdom's Faster Payments Service. Availability depends on the receiving provider, account details, participant access, transaction type and scheme limits.

What details does a payer use?

  • Account holder or beneficiary name
  • UK sort code
  • Account number
  • Payment reference where required
  • Amount and intended payment date

How does receiving work?

The payer's bank validates and submits an eligible instruction through Faster Payments. The receiving institution processes it to the destination arrangement and reports the transaction. Posting, availability and onward payout can occur at different times.

Faster Payments vs. Bacs

Faster Payments is designed for near-real-time eligible transfers. Bacs Direct Credit commonly follows a multi-day processing cycle and is widely used for payroll and bulk payments. Cutoffs, limits and participant coverage differ.

What should the recipient verify?

Confirm that the details support GBP Faster Payments, the beneficiary name expected by the payer, any reference requirement and whether inbound limits or prohibited payment types apply.

What should be reconciled?

Match payer, reference, gross amount, fees, received amount, timestamp and value date to the invoice or receivable. A scheme-level acceptance does not by itself prove final allocation to the customer's balance.
