ASEAN manufacturing refers to production performed within ASEAN member states, including regional supply chains in which materials or processes cross more than one member country.
What needs to be decided
Map each significant production step and input country. Use that map for lead-time, continuity, customs and origin analysis rather than assigning the finished good to a region broadly.
What the file should show
Keep the approved sites, process map, bill of materials, supplier tiers, origin support, quality controls and intercompany or shipping records.
| Checkpoint | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| Entity | Which legal business will contract, invoice and receive payment? |
| Site or basis | Which facility, standard or rule supports the supplier’s claim? |
| Release | What evidence must be approved before the order, shipment or payment proceeds? |
Where buyers get caught
Final assembly in one ASEAN state may be commercially useful without creating preferential origin. The product-specific rule determines the customs result.
