A MYR-to-PHP business payment uses Malaysian ringgit to settle a Philippine peso invoice or expense. Malaysia and the Philippines are in the same region, but the transfer is still cross-border. Domestic Malaysian payment infrastructure does not automatically connect a business payer to every Philippine bank.
Regional does not mean domestic
Bank Negara Malaysia describes RENTAS as Malaysia’s large-value payment system and notes that it settles high-value interbank funds and the ringgit leg of certain foreign exchange transactions. A supplier payment to the Philippines needs another approved route beyond Malaysia’s domestic settlement infrastructure.

| Structure | What happens | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Direct MYR-to-PHP conversion | One FX conversion before peso payout | Is direct pricing available for this amount and Recipient? |
| MYR through an intermediate currency | Ringgit converts twice before PHP payout | What are both rates and total deductions? |
| MYR sent to a MYR account | Supplier receives or holds ringgit | Will the bank preserve MYR and what fees apply? |
Why an intermediate currency matters
An intermediate currency can expand routing options, but it introduces another conversion and another place for rounding or pricing to appear. A direct pair is not automatically cheaper either. Compare the complete MYR debit with the expected PHP credit.
Illustrative calculation
Assume MYR 40,000 converts at an illustrative 13.20 PHP per MYR. The gross converted amount is PHP 528,000. If a MYR 40 fee is added to the debit, the payer sends MYR 40,040. If the fee is taken from the principal, the Recipient calculation changes. This is not a current quote.
Checks before authorization
- Confirm the invoice currency and amount.
- Verify the Recipient and Bank details through an existing contact.
- Ask whether conversion is direct.
- Compare the rate, fees and estimated PHP amount.
- Allow for Malaysian and Philippine banking calendars.
- Store the payment reference with the invoice.
Where Quotable Payments may fit
Quotable Payments may support an eligible MYR-to-PHP payment through an approved route. Currency conversion, minimums, limits, timing and payout-bank coverage need transaction-level confirmation.
Request a MYR-to-PHP corridor review
Continue with payment route, FX spread and international vendor payments.
Frequently asked questions
Can DuitNow or RENTAS send MYR directly to a Philippine bank?
Malaysia's domestic systems do not by themselves complete a Philippine supplier payment. A bank or cross-border provider must arrange the international leg, conversion where required and an approved Philippine payout.
Should a Malaysian business pay a Philippine supplier in MYR or PHP?
Use the invoice currency. PHP normally fits a peso invoice. MYR can fit when the supplier invoices in ringgit and has an eligible MYR account with understood receiving and conversion terms.
Is MYR-to-PHP always converted directly?
No. A provider may convert directly or use an intermediate currency. Ask for the actual route, total MYR debit, exchange rate, fees and estimated PHP amount.
What information is normally required?
Common details include the Recipient's legal name, Philippine bank and account number, invoice, currency, payment purpose and any bank identifier required for the approved route. Additional business or source records may be requested.
