An eight-character SWIFT/BIC normally identifies a bank or financial institution. Some payment instructions include an eleven-character code for a particular branch or service. Use the code supplied for the recipient account rather than adding a branch suffix.

Are SWIFT codes different for business accounts?

Business and personal accounts usually share the bank-level SWIFT/BIC. Receiving instructions can still differ by legal bank entity, branch, account currency, banking product and correspondent route.

For a business payment, obtain bank-issued instructions showing the registered business name, account number, account currency, bank name, branch or address, and required routing codes. Confirm changed or first-time instructions through a known contact at the recipient business.

How to choose the correct Singapore bank code
  1. Identify the payment route. International wires usually require a SWIFT/BIC. GIRO and some Singapore payment forms request the four-digit bank code.
  2. Match the legal bank entity. The same banking group can operate a Singapore-incorporated bank and a foreign-bank branch with different codes.
  3. Check the account currency. Foreign-currency receipts may use correspondent-bank instructions that differ from a domestic SGD payment.
  4. Confirm before release. Compare the code with written instructions issued for the recipient account.
Using Singapore bank details in a business payment workflow

Store the beneficiary name, account number, currency, bank entity and verified routing details together. Require a second-channel check when bank details change before approving the payment.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Singapore bank code the same as a SWIFT code?

No. A Singapore bank code is a four-digit local identifier used in GIRO and related domestic payment instructions. A SWIFT/BIC identifies a financial institution for international bank messaging.

Do Singapore business accounts use different SWIFT codes?

Business and personal accounts usually share the bank-level SWIFT/BIC. The correct receiving instructions can still differ by bank entity, branch, currency, account product or correspondent route.

Should a business use the bank code or SWIFT/BIC?

Use the SWIFT/BIC for an international wire when the receiving instructions request it. Use the four-digit bank code for Singapore GIRO or another domestic workflow when the payment form specifically asks for that code.

How should a Singapore bank code be verified?

Compare the code with bank-issued receiving instructions and the current Association of Banks in Singapore participant list. Confirm the legal bank entity, account currency and branch before releasing a material payment.
